About
This initiative aims to promote World Heritage and sustainable tourism thanks to the valuable contribution of photographer Heinz Plenge. It represents a collaboration between the UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in world heritage sites at USI Università della Svizzera italiana and the UNESCO Chair in Anthropology of Health - Biosphere and Systems of Heal at Università di Genova. Natural sites fall into the category of heritage which was not built by man. It therefore refers to landscapes, geological conformations and lands that have been formed over the years and that have now gained exceptional universal value.
Cultural Heritage Sites
Cultural sites fall into the category of man-made works that are particularly significant to one or multiple communities in terms of their cultural and historical value and legacy.
Mixed Heritage Sites
The sites in the mixed category are works of joint creation between man and nature, since they contain elements of both natural and cultural significance.
Intangible Cultural Heritage
Intangible cultural heritage includes cultural, ethnic and artisan traditions that represent the expression of groups or communities.

The conversation took place on June 1st, 2021. Plenge talked about the importance of sustainable tourism and the challenges faced by World Heritage Sites today. Speakers included Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, Dr. Anna Picco-Schwendener, Dr. Adine Gavazzi and Sara Beatriz Guardia.
