The story: Lagartijas Hunter
Desert on the northern coast
In the foreground, lizards emerge from the hands of a man. They are endemic of this place and constitute a resource for the communities who live there, being a source of nutrition while also holding great cultural value.
In fact, they represent a great source of inspiration, especially for Muchik jewelery, where gold is often combined with turquoise, a color found on the skin of Lagartijas. Inspired by the scales of these reptiles and their geometric shape, Muchik artisans make unique turquoise cuts to create wonderful jewels.
The pre-Hispanic world was always inspired by nature, and this connection with the current Peruvian communities is evident in both Heinz Plenge’s photography and the crafts of these populations. The concepts of spontaneity and the typical dynamism of the Andean and Amazonian worlds are beautifully captured in this photograph. The living culture that characterizes these people and the spontaneity with which they come into contact with nature and with each other, naturally allows them to appreciate diversity. The harmony in the smiles of these children and of the man teach us not to be afraid to share and show our own emotions.
